“Bikes For Cuba” is a small personally run project to provide good donated racing bicycles for high school cycling teams in Banes and Mao, Cuba (near Holguin-Guardalavaca) and Varadero and Jaguay Grande (near Varadero). Canadian tourists simply check bikes as sporting goods luggage. Bikes are picked up at your resort.

First bikes arrive in Banes in early 2010

All bikes are packed in proper travel boxes. These are lightweight and easy to handle. The airlines take these as regular sporting goods luggage. Airlines usually charge $30-$50 a bike. Jeff Reid looks after any costs, but can also use some help in this department for those that wish to contribute.

Upon arrival at the Cuban airport the bike boxes are simply put on a cart along with your regular luggage and placed on the resort bus. Once at the resort, the racing team coach then gives you a call to arrange to pick up the bicycle at a mutually convenient time.
